Title and Statement of Responsiblity

Faster, Higher / Edited by Nina Ernst & susan pui san lok;  Designed by MARC&ANNA; Commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella and BFI.

Summarization of Content

Publication associated with susan pui san lok’s installation Faster, Higher, which was commissioned by the Film and Video Umbrella and the BFI to mark the 2012 London Olympics.

The work was a multi-screen exploration of aspiration and endeavour, using a montage of archival footage of Chinese mass events, sports, Olympic footage, shots of the construction site for the 2012 Olympics and preparations for Chinese cultural events in London. The work contrasted the effort and commitment of athletes training for the Olympic Games with the event itself and its 'simplified, abstract parade of nations unified in their goals of sporting excellence and world peace'.

The work tour several venues including: BFI SouthBank (2008 May 30 - 2008 Aug 31) and Hatton Gallery, Newcastle, (2009 Sep 16 - 2009 Nov 15).
