Summarization of Content

Catalogue of the exhibition 'Generation' featuring the work of  Chinese artists Wu Xiaohai and Nie Zhengjie at Pyms Gallery, London on 14 November -14 December 2012.

These artists can be read as raising issues about Chinese society, but their messages and methods are subtle. Wu and Nie share two other characteristics which make for common ground in the inter-generational conversation of this exhibition: contrasting but distinctive figurative techniques, both with a spontaneous feel; and an ability to generate a keen sense of time and place. They use distinctive techniques to raise questions (as subtle subverters perhaps) about both the received history and the current condition of Chinese society.
