Title and Statement of Responsiblity

Chen Qi - Woodblock Prints 1989-2002 = 陈琦 / The Muban Foundation; Catalogue compiled and edited by David Barker; Translations form the Chinese by David Barker; Catalogue Design by John McMillan; Printed by Nicholson and Bass Ltd

Summarization of Content

Catalogue commissioned by the Muban Foundation to show Chen Qi's Woodblock Prints between 1989 and 2002. The catalogue was published to coincide with Chen Qi's exhibition at the Bankside Gallery, London, in 2006. Also includes a invite to the exhibition preview on 19th July 2006.

Chen Qi's work, predominantly in black and white, challenges the market demand for coloured prints and therefore surpasses the limits of the printmaker today. Each piece of Qi's work constrasts delicacy with stark reality, exploring what a print can be through simplicity and tranquility.
