Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for the Citizens touring exhibition organised by Art Circuit Touring Exhibitions in 2005.

Based upon the definition of citizenship in the French declaration of Human Rights of 1789, the exhibition explored whether the concept still functioned in the 21st century or it was outmoded and anachronistic. The exhibition featured works presented the viewpoint of artists from across the world which highlighted the problematic relationship of the individual to a space.

The exhibition was curated by Cynthia Morrison-Bell and Laymert Garcia dos Santos, and featured works by Jana Sterbak, Mans Wrange, Roy Arden, Ludovic Michaux, Matthieu Laurette, Anna Bella Geiger, Claudia Andujar, Joao Ripper, Mauricio Dias and Walter Riedweg, Boris Mikailov, Raqs Media Collective, Rubens Mano, Ori Gersht, Peter Kennard, Anthony Key, Ingrid Pollard, Jean-Luc Abbatucci, Carlos Carvalho, Armin Linke. The exhibition was held at Pitzhanger Manor Museum, London
(20 Jan- 4 Apr 2005); The City Gallery, Leicester (27 Apr - 25 May 2005); Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown, (20 Aug -8 Oct 2005) ; and The Ormeau Baths, Belfast (20 Oct - 17 Dec 2005).

The catalogue provides a brief background and introduction to the exhibition and biographical details of the artists involved.
