2002 (has beginning date)
Arts Council England is a government-funded body dedicated to promoting the performing, visual and literary arts in England. It is the core funder of the Centre.
It was formed in 2002, after the merger of Arts Council of England with its Regional Arts Boards (RABs). It is responsible for allocating funding from the Government and lottery funding to the arts. This investment has helped to transform the building stock of arts organisations and to create lots of additional high quality arts activity.
Since October 2011, Arts Council England has been responsible for supporting and developing museums, a function it inherited from the now defunct Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
