Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for Madein exhibition 'Seeing One's Own Eyes' held at the Ikon Gallery, 26 May-11 Jul 2010.

The exhibition showcased a selection of works by MadeIn's founder, Xu Zhen. MadeIn is an artists' collective, started in Shanghai in early 2009 to "stimulate the creation, support and dissemination of contemporary art".

Xu Zhen dabbles in a wide range of media - sculpture, video, installation - all dramatic and knowing, breathtaking in their audacity, aesthetically and conceptually ambitious. Cliches of all-too-human ambition recur in his work, often with a theatrical sense of humour that tends to undermine assumptions of worth.
