Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for 2004 touring exhibition Sequences curated by Paul St George.

The exhibition featured contemporary works by 15 artists that use sequences of images to explore ideas of time, movement and duration. Influenced by influential chrono-photographers Marey and Muybridge, Paul St George was inspired to curate an exhibition to mark the centenary of their deaths. The exhibition also acknowledges the resurgence of chronophotography in contemporary art, thanks to post-cinema practices, digital art, kinetic sculpture and new experimental photography. The artist  found that sequences of images offer fresh opportunities for exploring the aesthetics that operate at the intersection of time and space.
