Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for the group show Insightful Charisma, the inaugural exhibition of the Himalayas Museum, Shanghai, China, between  11 June -September 2013.

Providing an overview of the development of contemporary art in China, Insightful Charisma (Yi Xiang 意象) aspired to 'reshape an alternative grand narration view of visual culture' and integrated classic paintings, architectural design, contemporary art, and traditional Chinese opera together into one show. Traditional culture, contemporary memory, personal experience were all presented simultaneously and interacted together to initiate new conversation.

The exhibition was divided into 5 segments: Shen (spirit), Li (reason), Jing (imagery); Qi (internal force), and Yun (rhythm). The themes were to be understood more as a space for contemporary ongoing narrative rather than separate cultural philosophical terms.
