The aim of his residency at the Centre was to carry out research into the live art scene in the UK with the intention to develop contacts with artists and art organisations and find UK artists who could perform in his future festivals. During his residency he also developed new performances, including Living under the Flag and The Only Flag.
Shu Yang was only based on site until the 19th November, when he began to tour the UK with fellow artist Wang Chuyu. During this tour the provided performances at Bluecoats, Liverpool, for the Liverpool Biennial (7th November); Holden Gallery, Manchester, (12th November); and at the Hull Art Lab (28th November).
He returned to the Centre in December, and performed The Only Flag as part of the Centre 1st anniversary celebration event.
The China Live tour in 2005 was a direct result of this residency.
