Scope and Content

Catalogue published for Gordon Cheung's solo show The Sleeper Awakes held at the Other Gallery, Shanghai, 2010 Sep 10 - Oct 10.

Taking the narrative of a short story of the same name written by author HG Wells in 1910, the works addressed conditions of contemporary globalization but in a multilayered fashion. The works were situated within a contemporary backdrop of global disasters: financial fiascos including multinational corporate collapse, political hijacking of democracy by special interest groups, an exponentially accelerating technology.
