Summarization of Content

Catalogue published to mark the exhibition of Van Lau's work as part of the Hong Kong Arts Festival, 1987, presented by the Urban Council, Hong Kong and organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

As a Chinese literati of the 20th century, Van Lau has through his sculptural forms internalised Chinese iconography as his native language and modernity as his socialisation. His artistic endeavour is a struggle to articulate the Chinese literati ideals in contemporary terms. Where Van Lau's uniqueness lies is his choice to express these ideals in sculptural forms.
