Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for Laetitia Yhap's exhibition 'Maritime Counterpoint' at the  Boundary Gallery, London, 11 Oct-16 Nov 1996.

Yhap has become identified with a very specific subject matter. For twenty years she has painted the fishermen on the fishing beach at Hastings, translating the daily round of their lives into emblematic paintings of great strength and prescence. Yhap paints her fisherman triumphing over nature. Her vision is profoundly human, at the same time heroic and ordinary.
