Content

Scope and Content

Exhibition catalogue for Ma Qing Chao's exhibition at Colchester Arts Centre, 30 October - 10 November 1990.

The breadth of Ma's work from western style oil portraits to traditional Chinese imagery in ink on paper reflects the range of expression which is common to many of the younger Chinese artists; but Ma's work has a precision and an insight which is all her own.

The inspiration for much of the work in this exhibition was a housing development in Colchester, where Ma set about recording the very individual people employed in the construction process from the labourer on the site to more recently some of the office-based proposal.
