This catalogue was released in conjunction with Wang Jianan's exhibiton at Goedhuis Contemporary in London, 8 - 22 Jun 2001.This exhibition, featuring a series of beautiful landscapes, shows the extent to which his work has gathered clarity and strength. Wang paints scenes that resonate with the seasons, tying his work to traditional Chinese seasonal references, but fashioning his works according to his own unique, contemporary vision. His visions are freshened by his strong compositions and daring use of colour. His paintings recall the seasonal traditions in Chinese painting and poetry, yet he presents them as such splendid natural visions that one feels intuitively drawn to them, regardless of the works' cultural roots.
