Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for 'The Temperament of detail' a group show curated by Carol Yinghua and Liu Ding, held at the Red Mansion Foundation gallery on 3 Dec 2007 – 31 Jan 2008.

Young and prolific, Hu Liu reinvigorates the medium of drawing by making dark, beautiful, simple, and fun images. She draws freely from a plethora of sources from flora to landscape to human behaviours, while flora seem to remain a favourite and reoccuring subject matter. In Wang Luyuan's minimalist paintings and masculine mechanical sketches, he exposes the inner designs of machines, and incorporates his alterations and manipulations into these designs to suggest thorny international political relationships as well as more general situations where foerces from all sides contain and implicate each other. Wang Wei's spatial intervention is not only about altering a space and our interaction with it, but also to provide an extra experiential dimension to an exhibition itself. Wu Xiaojun makes sculptures that employ a wealth of materials, from animal bone ashes to grounded pill powder. His works reference and reinterpret a variety of news events, in an attempt to question and stretch our social and political experiences and perceptions.
