Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for the exhibition 'Romancing the Stone' exhibited at the Manchester Town Hall in 2007. Curated by Jo Bloxham, artist created jewellery that matched the marble sculptures in the town hall.

Twenty-two artists, established or unknown, from all over Europe and abroad, were asked to design a piece of jewellery for a marble bust of a famous historic person. A piece of jewellery is at its best when being worn; the personality of the wearer enhances the intellectual and artistic integrity of the jewel. A jewel on a motionless statue is the complete reversal: a jewel brings poetry and fairytales, humour and comment, and in doing so, breathes new life into the marble.
