Summarization of Content

Catalogue of Yang Yanping's paintings in advance of an exhibition taking place in 1997 at Michael Goedhuis in London, 16 June - 1 August 1997.

Yang paints natural scenes, such as the lotus flower, water and the mountains in a spirit of revenance, not to teach any particular lesson or make a political point, not as mere decoration, but to provide material for deep thought. With every new departure, she never eschews her past interests, and containues therefore to incorporate lotuses in winter, mountains in the west and poignant essays in calligraphy. Her concern is to relfect the universal experience of freedom and its denial, as well as the variety of human experience in the course of a life, with its highs and lows, successes and bitter failures.
