Scope and Content

Booklet referencing a works by Li Liao included within the exhibition 'Habits and customs of ___ are so different from ours that we visit them with the same sentiment that we visit exhibitions' at the Kadist Art Foundation, Paris in 2016.

The works included:
  •  art is void a video work in which the artist's daughter is shown learning to speak the sentence 'Art is Void';
  • Illumination (2013/16) a performance piece where the gallery space was illuminated by lights taken from the artist's famly home in Shenzhen, China, leaving his family living without artifical light during the exhibition;
  • Rather Turn on a Cellphone, than Bore a hole in the Wall to get some Light from the neighbour's house, a series of photographs from an instagram residency by the artist during the exhibition referencing a Chinese folklore tale of a young man to borrow light from a neighbour's house through a crack in the wall so he could read.
