Profile of Australian artist Fan Dongwang, sponsored by the Australian Council of the Arts.

Fan Dongwang's painting is related to the larger context of contemporary Chinese art which first became visible in the west in the 1990's, after the Tiananmen Square incident in 1989. His teacher at the Shanghai School of Arts and Crafts where he studied before coming to Australia in 1990 was Yu Youhan recognised as one of the foremost painters in the "Mao Goes Pop" art movement.
