Mao Xuhui graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Yunnan Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. Founding member of the "Artistic Research Group of Southwestern China". Organised and participated in New Portraiture (1985), an important exhibition that contributes significantly to the New Art Movement.
