Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for the solo show by Geng Xue: Mr Sea possibly held at the Zero Art Center, Beijing in 2014.

Mr. Sea featured Geng Xue animation work of the same name, which was based upon the one of the stories (Mystery Island/Snake Island) from Strange Tales of Liao Zhai written by Pu Songling during the Qing Dynasty. The story features a young explorer who sails the shore of a mysterious island where he falls under the spell of a beautiful girl and end with  tragedy and bloodshed. The animation, featuring fired porcelains, is an allegory of doomed love taking place within shifting light and shadows.
