2008 (has beginning date)
Birth Rites is a collection of contemporary artworks related to childbirth curated by Helen Knowles.
Birth Rites began as a curatorial project which explored the politics and practice of giving birth through contemporary art works. As part of the project, 5 contemporary artists were matched with five childbirth practitioners to experience their work and develop new art works. The works by Ping Qiu were developed during her residency at the Chinese Arts Centre. The results of the project were shown at the Glasgow Science Centre and Manchester Museum.
In 2008 the works produced became the Birth Rites Collection which was first based at the University of Salford from 2009-2015. Since 2017 the works have been based at Guys Campus at King's College London.
