Biography

ArtSway was a contemporary art gallery based in the New forest at Sway, Hampshire, UK. Opening in 1997, the gallery was designed to be a place to see, discuss, make and engage with internationally significant contemporary visual art. The purpose built space hosted a changing programme of exhibitions with a wide range of creative opportunities for their audiences.

In 2007, ArtSway collaborated with the Chinese Arts Centre to hold the PRODUCTION residency. During the 5-month residency, the artist initially worked at the Centre to carry out research before moving on to ArtSway to develop a full scale exhibition. The result of the residency was the exhibition 'The Cretaceous Period' by Ma Yong Feng.

The Gallery closed on 31 July 2012, after they had failed to secure funding from the Arts Council, England as an national portfolio organisation. Following a merger with the ArtSway charitable Trust, SPUD has taken over responsibility for the former ArtSway building to form ‘spudWORKS’.
