Scope and Content

Papers regarding the administration of the New Commissions Scheme at the Chinese Art Centre. 


The records in this series come from various accession received by the Archive. Physical records are mostly arranged within this series, however the original copies of digital records may be held within their original accessions. 

The New Commissions Scheme was a project which commissioned new site-specific work by emerging artists for the Chinese Arts Centre's Edge Street venue. The new works aimed to use the Centre exhibition space to the full while offering career support to the artists who took part. 

The artist who took part included  Suki Chan, Pamela So, Ahn Sung-Hee, Lisa Cheung working with Emil Goh. Anna Lee, Chun-Chao Chiu, Gayle Chong Kwan, Tsai-Wei Chen; Joshua Jiang Jeihong, Yu-Chng Chuang and Jenny Chong. The scheme ended in early 2003 when the Centre was originally due to move to its new premises on Thomas Street. As the building was not ready on schedule, the Centre held a retrospective exhibition at Edge Street Gathering Momentum which featured the ‘New Commission’ scheme artists,
