Scope and Content

Documentation of the durational performance Pacific Avenue by Marcus Young, (2006 Nov 02 - 2006 Nov 03) at the Vital 06 festival at the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester.

Following previous performances in cities across the world, Young brought his slow-walking project Pacific Avenue to the streets of Manchester. The 3 hours performance, saw the artist walk slowly between along the usual 5 minute walk between the Arndale Centre and St Ann's Church. Young, dressed in a long beige Chinese garment, made eye contact with everyone he met and his slowness served to "disrupt the usual pace of the urban city landscape". The public intervention was met with various reactions from the public who unknowingly stumble upon the performance and attendees from the festival who knowingly captured the performance as the theatre of everyday life unfolded around the artist.

Marcus Young repeated the performance on two days of the festival, 2nd November and 3rd November.
