Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for the solo exhibition Mirage by Zhou Jirong at the Red Gate Gallery in 2002.

The Mirage series depicts urban scenes of a different order of complex connotations. In his works the city, seen at dusk, is shrouded in a pall of gloomy twilight. The motivation behind Zhou's paintings is rooted in his own experiences of life, as well as his visual experiences. Through his unique descriptive portraits of the city, Zhou adopts the epic role of the artist as a philosopher observing the city from lofty heights.
