Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue for the group exhibition 'Dream 02' organised by the Red Mansion Foundation and held at the The Bargehouse and the.gallery@OXO in 2002.

Following on from 'Dream 01', the exhibition brought together 24 artists to give an insight into the contemporary art of three regions: the People's Republic off China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The curators of "Dream 02" avoided focussing on works which have predominantly Chinese characteristics or which reveal a particular view of China with which the West can identify. Although some artists in the exhibition comment on the vast social changes, from the sobriety and formality of the Mao era to the gaudy consumerism and 'love of money' ethics tampant today, other artists have entered into dialogue with the Western art world, taking a place in the global development of contemporary art; other artists are more introspective and express individual concerns.
