Summarization of Content

Catalogue to accompany the touring exhibition 'Imagined Communities' by the National Touring Exhibitions and Oldham Art Gallery. The exhibition opened at Oldham Art Gallery, 27 January - 24 March 1996, then toured John Hansard Gallery, Firstsite at the Minories, Walsall Museum & Art Gallery, Royal Festival Hall, and the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow between April 1996-February 1997.

The "Imagined Communities" exhibition showed how artists move across assured boundaries, placing their feet in different camps. The exhibition presents a variety of approaches to art production, from the figurative to the conceptual, in video, photography, sculpture and painting. The nine artists present a sense of dislocation, mirroring ongoing fragmentation within the artistic community. Individually, they probe our assumptions about the certainty of our community.
