Scope and Content

Exhibition catalogue for the group show  'We didn't mean to be bad kids - TV made us do it' held at the Warringtom Museum & Art Gallery, 3 Apr - 26 Jun 2004. Initally conceived by David Hancock, the exhibition examined a child's view of popular culture and used it to explore the world of everyday from different perspectives.

The artists here are keen to present the continuing influence of childhood in their work's development. They have essentially never grown up, and their work strives to recapture the innocence and naivety of childhood. A sense of desperation infuses the works; they scream for attention in their street slang, conversing in the dialect of the media that peppers the vocabulary of their art.
