Summarization of Content

Exhibition catalogue of Chien-Wei Chang's 2012 exhibition 'Don't look back! I told you so' at the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, Leicester, which was part of The Shape of Things project.

The vessel has a long and complex history within both Chinese and Taiwanese material cultures. Chang often examines the importance of pouring vessels and drink consumption in death rituals; harking back to an archaic grammar of functional objects, they cement bonds of social identity across time through both production and consumption. For the shape of things programme, Chang expands the theme of the vessel to focus on the cultural space of a cellar. With his cellar space, he aims to awaken a sense of our connectedness across cultures and across time with a place of nourishment, ripening and fermentation.
