Scope and Content

Exhibition catalogue for 'Habits and customs of __ are so different from ours that we visit them with the same sentiment that we visit exhibitions' exhibition, curated by Biljana Ciric, held at Kadist Art Foundation, Paris on 20 Feb - 30 Apr  2016. The publication constitutes 3-ply’s contribution to the exhibition.

The exhibition, whose title was taken from a quote from John Gault's Voyages and Travels in the years 1809, 1810, 1811', displayed artist's responses to what it means to be an artist in a world where exhibitions are becoming standardized products within a capitalist system.

The publication features 6 small pamphlets by the artist in the exhibition, including: Buried Alive, Lu Huanzhi; Fragments From A Critical Dictionary of Southeast Asia, Ho Tzu Nyen; Rather Turn on a Cellphone, than Bore a Hole in the Wall to Get some Light from a Neighbour's House, Li Liao; Yugoexport, Irena Haiduk; We Will Discuss Friendship?, Sinisa Ilic; [...], Eva Barto

The design and structure of the publication was modelled after packaged gifts which groups of Australian volunteers sent to asylum seekers detained on Manus Island and Nauru. 3-ply’s share of proceeds from sales of the publication were donated to the purchase of phone credits for the asylum seekers.
