Scope and Content
Colour & black and sing silent single-channel video installation, 'The Route' by Chen Chieh-jen.
Inspired by the Liverpool dockers strikes of 1995, the film examined the fortunes and cargo of one ship loaded outside the strike, Neptune Jade, which was blacklisted and roamed the world two years until it eventually sailed to Taiwan where it was dismantled and sold. The work, featuring documentary footage on the dockers’ dispute and the Neptune Jade with new footage of a staged picket line at the Port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, reveals the global story of workers’ solidarity that began at Liverpool docks and ended in the artist's homeland. Shown at the Liverpool Biennial 2006.
